Frequently Asked Questions

Admissions

  • What is the tuition?

Tuition is free to Pennsylvania residents. LVPA is a public high school of choice and funded through the sending school districts. LVPA receives 75% of the funding provided to the sending school district through state, federal and property taxes. Although we do not require tuition, we ask each family to support the school and help fundraise to make up the almost $2,000 deficit per student.

  • What is the student required to bring to the audition?

All applicants are to bring the following to each audition

    · Proof of Residency (ONLY one of the following: utility bill, mortgage statement or lease agreement)

    · Birth Certificate

    · Current Report Card

    · Final Report Card, previous school year

    · (Current Juniors only) Grade 9 Report Card

    · Immunization Records

    · TWO recent photos (not necessarily a headshot – school picture or other casual picture is fine!)

    Special Needs Students Only

    · NOREP

  • What are the entrance requirements?

Acceptance to the school is based on an audition in the field of interest—art, figure skating, music, theatre, or dance—conducted by the instructors in that department.

  • May I audition in more than one area?

We encourage students with multiple interests and talents to audition for more than one major.

  • How will I know if I have been accepted to LVPA?

Decision Letters are mailed mid to late March.

  • Will I be well prepared for college when I graduate?

Absolutely. LVPA graduates are accepted into the most prestigious college programs in the nation. In fact over 95% of our students attend a college, university or conservatory after graduation. On average, our 100 graduates are awarded $3,000,000 in scholarships, grants and financial aid each year.

  • What if I decide not to pursue a career in the arts?

Our academic program is equally emphasized during all four years of high school so students who decide to pursue other interests after graduation can feel confident that they have the background and the skills to excel in college-level studies in other fields.

  • Does the school provide transportation for students?

Pennsylvania Charter School law requires all school districts within a ten mile radius to provide transportation to LVPA. This policy covers many of our students. Any child living outside the bussing districts must provide their own transportation to LVPA. Our Transportation Manager provides lists of students from the same region to help coordinate car pools.
