LVPA’s Figure Skating Program is dedicated to helping our students achieve their individual dreams and goals, on the ice and off. Our faculty nurtures each student by supporting his or her individual aspirations. We kindle the passion for skating and personal expression that makes our students excellent performers.

A message from Bill Fitzpatrick
Director, LVPA Figure Skating Program
LVPA’s Figure Skating program is the only public high school skating program in the USA, and takes our unique curriculum seriously. We believe strongly that, while it is an Olympic sport, figure skating becomes a truly magical presentation when athletic skill joins artistic interpretation. By balancing the study of skating with the work of high school, we create an environment where all of our students grow as skaters and individuals.
The Figure Skating department creates an individual curriculum based upon each student’s skills, incorporating a uniform assessment of initiative, skating academics and performance. LVPA has solved the challenge of mixing the intense study and time requirement that the skating requires with a full and rich academic schedule. Students can concentrate on their love of skating and still be part of the total high school experience. Students graduate with all the academic requirements needed for entrance into the college program of their choice.
The Figure Skating program provides two hours of focused skating time each day, plus daily off-ice instruction in ballet, theater, choreography and personal fitness. All ice time is spent at the Steel Ice Center in South Bethlehem. Our faculty of national and international skating professionals includes former competitors, coaches and national judges. Our students have multiple opportunities to visit and serve at U.S. Figure Skating qualifying competitions and professional ice shows. In addition, skating academic courses are offered in USFSA rules/standards, skating theory, skating history, principals of physics and geography, and program construction.
Admission to LVPA’s Figure Skating Department is based upon a skating audition. Please feel free to contact me to discuss the program and the opportunity for your child. I would love to speak with you at one of our Open Houses, or to meet your child as he or she spends a day shadowing one of our skaters.
